Goa : The Margao and Fatorda mandals of BJP denounced Margao Muncipal Council’s (MMC) move to hike the rates for birth and death certificates to Rs 50. The decision was taken at a hurriedly convened council meeting on Wednesday, the last day of its five-year term.BJP also flayed the council for confirming the minutes of its last meeting and giving approval for biodigester plants to be set up at the cost of Rs 43 lakh in Margao, despite BJP councillors having vehemently opposed the exorbitant cost at the last meeting.
Sharmad Raiturcar demanded that the MMC immediately rescind the decision of increasing the rates of birth and death certificates. Pointing out that the meeting was convened without giving the mandatory seven-day notice to councillors, Raiturcar accused the MMC of manipulating processes and fraudulently granting approval to certain decisions at the meeting. He demanded an inquiry into the episode.
