CCP fined 24 tourists at Miramar Beach for not wearing masks

GOA: The corporation of the city of Panaji (CCP) fined 24 tourists at Miramar Beach for not wearing masks.“Almost all were tourists from Karnataka. They were carrying masks but not wearing them. Masks are compulsory in all public places,” Panaji mayor Uday Madkaikar said.

The corporation had similarly fined some tourists on Sunday too, when the weekend saw visitor footfalls pick up. Two groups one of 12 tourists sitting on the steps of the iconic Immaculate Conception Church in Panaji and another of three tourists who were alighting from a taxi in the heart of the city were fined.

“The drive will continue,” Madkaikar said, adding that the government should send out clear messages to tourists to protect themselves as well as the public. Panaji has been reporting over 20 new positive cases daily and the CCP has requested the public not to visit its office except for urgent work.
