Chandrakant asked agriculture officials to ensure maximum land

GOA: Deputy chief minister and agriculture minister Chandrakant Kavlekar said asked agriculture officials to ensure that maximum fallow land is brought back into the fold of agriculture. He told officials to convince farmland owners to at least give out their land to others to till, if they themselves are not interested in farming.

Kavlekar said that officials should inquire with all owners of agricultural land the reason for not cultivating their plot, wherever the land is lying fallow. He said support in terms of availability of water can be provided wherever required. The minister said that the aim is to make Goa an agriculture based economy again. “Today Goa is known for its beaches. But that is not the real Goa…In my childhood, I have seen people cultivate even in patches available amid rocky terrain,” said Kavlekar.
