GOA: The Corporation of the city of Panaji will soon put SOPs in place for Ganesh Chaturthi to ensure that the festival is celebrated safely during the pandemic, city mayor Uday Madkaikar said.
“The situation is different this year. Social distancing must be maintained and not more than five people can gather at a time. For this purpose, we will have to prepare certain norms. We will have a meeting with the traffic cell and the Panaji police station to issue guidelines for the festival,” he said.
There are five major points in Panaji where the idols are immersed: Ribandar, Four Pillars in Mala and Panaji ferry are among the spots that have narrow roads. Here, the CCP will monitor the various processions to ensure that only a few vehicles at a time are released to carry out the immersion ritual near the water body. Lifeguards will also be stationed at the site as a precautionary measure. The SOP will be prepared by the first week of August, Madkaikar said.
