GOA: The body of Goa’s fourth Covid-19 victim — a 66-year-old man from Taleigao who died on Tuesday night — remained at the t the mortuary of the ESI-Covid hospital in Margao a day later as his family appeared reluctant to accept it to conduct the last rites.
“Our forensic doctor spoke to the family and tried to motivate them and address their fears,” said deputy director of health services Dr Ira Almeida. “They were hesitant to accept the body.”
“If the family doesn’t accept the body, we will perform his last rites at the Hindu crematorium in Pajifond, Margao,” Almeida said. “The management of the crematorium has already permitted us to perform Covid funerals there at a specified location. It’s a good gesture on their part.”
While the last rites of the state’s first two Covid victims were performed by the district administration at Ponda, the funeral of the third was conducted at the cemetery of Holy Spirit Church, Margao, in the presence of the deceased person’s family members.
