Goa: The crime branch of Goa police has arrested three persons from Bihar who had sold a firearm to the accused in the murder of Margao jeweller Swapnil Walke. The accused had paid Rs 70,000 for the weapon. Police said that two of the accused Evander Rodrigues and Mustafa Shaikh had travelled to Bihar to purchase the gun and came back via railway. Another accused Omkar Patil received the two of them after their return from Bihar at the Margao railway station.
Speaking to, crime branch SP Shobhit Saksena said the duo confessed to buying the gun from Begusarai in Bihar besides disclosing the sellers’ names. Saksena said a team from the crime branch was sent to Bihar, and after conducting an extensive search operation along with the Begusarai police, the accused were apprehended. All the three accused will be brought to Goa on a transit remand.
In September, the jeweller was stabbed at his shop in the heart of Margao. Bleeding profusely, Walke chased his assailant but he had collapsed outside the store and died before he could be taken to hospital. Initially, the case was investigated by Margao police, but it was later handed over to the crime branch.
