Goa: Negligence on part of the garbage contractor and his workers hired at Nerul was one of the reasons behind garbage being carelessly strewn at the dumping site, village panchayat secretary Govind Khalap said.“The garbage was kept at the segregation site of the dumping ground by the contractor. For their own personal interests, the labourers segregated the plastic plates and bottles to sell them instead of letting it go to the plant. This created a mess at the segregation site,” he said.He said that unknown persons entered the premises at night and burned some of the garbage.
Last week, pictures of garbage mismanagement had gone viral on social media allegedly accusing Karan Johar-owned Dharma Productions for leaving it behind after their shoot. Among the waste were also PPE kits.“We have nothing to do with the line producer because he has paid the garbage contractor to collect the waste, not the panchayat. Our concern is that the shooting had ended on October 16 or 17, yet the garbage was left behind,” he said. The Entertainment Society of Goa has sent a notice to line producer Dilip Borkar.
