GOA: Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) on Monday hit out at Goa Foundation for writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting the state government’s failure in recovering Rs 3,431 crore from several former mining leaseholders and the need to e-auction iron ore mines.
“Goa Foundation has repeatedly tried to destabilise the lives of people, and this time they are looking to derail mining resumption by writing to the PM,” GMPF president Puti Gaonkar said.
He also blamed Goa Foundation director Claude Alvares for the suspension of mining activities in the state. “We don’t know what are his issues with mining companies. Around three lakh mining dependants are suffering because of Goa Foundation. The state’s chief minister and governor are trying to revive people’s livelihood, but Goa Foundation is blocking these attempts,” he said.
