The Indian Medical Association, Goa Branch has extended a hand to the government by with a plan for covid care centres be set up in each constituency and run on a PPP model between IMA and the Goa government with Covid angels- those who have recovered from the disease t-o allay the fears of patients as well involve local MLAs.
President IMA Goa Dr Samuel Arawattigi told TOI that the plan submitted to the chief minster and health secretary has specific roles set out for the deputy collector, health officer, IMA doctors, Covid angels, social workers as well as local elected representative.
If symptomatic positives are accommodated in covid care centres within their own constituencies and are treated by doctors known to them, they can better relate to them and it will help build up their confidence, he adds.
“With this plan we want to help the government and health workers who are already overburdened. Since the CM has appointed one ministers for every taluka let the local MLA and local sarpanch work under them. Right now only the government is combatting the pandemic. This plan will make everyone feel like they’re involved and take the load of health officers who can concentrate on treating symptomatic patients, contact tracing, dengue etc,” Salkar says.
