GOA: Goa is on the brink of breaching the 40,000 Covid-19 case mark even as its comparative daily average of new infection lessened this month. On Thursday, the state’s total caseload reached 39,770 which comprises 35,176 recoveries, 526 deaths and 4,083 active cases. September saw 16,000 new cases found as against 11,505 in August. The tally of new cases during the last 15 days has been 6,352. The daily average for September was 533, which has dropped to 423 in the last 15 days. Yet people who know the subject aren’t willing to say that the cases are dropping.
State epidemiologist Dr Utkarsh Betodakar said that the state will be able to say the virus is receding only if there is a consistent decline in cases over a period of time, say for a week or more days. “I would wait till the end of this month to comment if cases are falling,” Betodkar said.
