GOA: After a slowdown for the last three days, Goa’s active Covid-19 cases shot up to 4,833 with 621 new infections being detected. The death count also shot up to 262 with six casualties reported in the last 24 hours. In the last nine days, Goa’s daily average of new cases has been 495. The state is likely to witness a spike till the end of this month. From the Panaji area itself 42 cases were detected of which 18 were from Bhatlem. “Of these, 14 positive cases were from one family at Bhatlem,” city mayor Uday Madkaikar said.
Meanwhile, bed shortage in covid hospitals continued as a result of increasing cases. Dean of the Goa Medical College, Dr S M Bandekar, who is in charge of Covid hospitals, said that they had to shift some patients to the Ponda sub district hospita and the North Goa district hospital, Mapusa,. “Some patients were sent to the North Goa district hospital to be managed in its isolation facility as the bed shortage was felt, but we managed,” said Bandekar after a photograph of some patients placed on the floor went viral.
