GOA : Art and culture minister Govind Gaude on Friday said the government is likely to drop plans to demolish Kala Academy’s open-air auditorium and may repair it instead.“The final decision to take up repair work will be taken next week,” he told . Gaude had recently received a third report on the condition of the Kala Academy from the PWD, which suggested major repairs to the structure .
Kala Academy had itself reached out to the premier institute, CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC), Chennai, to find out appropriate solutions to the strengthen the building.The construction of Kala Academy was completed in 1981. It was renovated and refurbished in 2004.Situated in a picturesque location at the confluence of the Mandovi river, the building comprises facilities such as auditoriums, an art gallery, an amphitheatre and classrooms for schools of drama, western music, Indian music and dance, had published a series of reports stating that the government was likely to demolish the open air auditorium.
