GOA: For the state’s Hindus, Ganesh Chaturthi is much more than a festival. It is a time family members spend praying, cooking and eating together at the ancestral home, in an annual ritual of sorts. But as Covid-19 cases continue to rise, some families have taken a decision to defer the festivities, heartbreaking as it is for them.
“We took the decision to defer celebrations to safeguard the elderly members of the family. No matter how much precautions we take, we would have to purchase so many fruits, flowers, vegetables from the markets. We have family members coming down for the festival from different parts of Goa as well as from outside the state. So we felt it was prudent to defer the celebrations,” said Pai Raiker.
