In Port Town MMC Councillor laid to Rest

GOA: The seniormost councillor of Mormugao Municipal Council, Pascoal D’Souza, 72, lost the battle against Covid-19 after he breathed his last at the ESI hospital at 1am on Sunday.

Sources revealed that D’Souza had remained at home during the lockdown period and had moved out only to attend the municipal council meeting on June 22. A few days after the meeting, two councillors, including the chairperson tested positive. Later, four more councillors, including D’Souza, contracted the virus.

As the council’s term ends in October 2020, there will not be a re-election to fill the vacant post.

D’Souza’s body was laid to rest at St Aatndrew’s Church cemetery in Vasco on Sunday evening. He is the elder brother of ex-revenue minister and former MLA Jose Philip D’Souza, who is the state NCP president.
