GOA: Waste management minister Michael Lobo said the state government cancelled the notification that covered Covid-19 treatment under the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY) because of concerns that Private hospitals would be overburdened with Covid-19 patients. “Private hospitals have limited number of beds for Covid-19 patients. If Covid-19 treatment came under DDSSY, it was feared that Covid-19 patients would flood private hospitals, thereby depriving patients with other diseases of treatment in these hospitals,” he told reporters at Calangute.
“The GMC and other Covid care centres also have the best facilities for Covid-19 treatment,” Lobo said. When it was pointed out that almost all the MLAs and the Union minister, besides politicians who tested positive for Covid-19 and needed hospitalisation got themselves admitted in private hospitals, Lobo said “Only a couple of them were admitted in a private hospital at Dona Paula. The others were admitted at the GMC or the Covid hospital in Margao.”
