GOA: Vasco and Verna police, who came under heavy criticism following free traffic movement in the Mormugao taluka despite the lockdown being extended there till July 24, cracked down on violators on Tuesday.
“Nakabandis were enforced at Shantinagar, Baina, Dabolim, and Chicalim through which no person was allowed to pass without a valid reason. Many shops that had opened for business were also closed,” said Vasco PI Nilesh Rane.
MMC chairperson Nandadeep Raut told that he would suspend the licences of the errant vendors. He also said he has asked the Vasco PI to take appropriate action against anyone violating lockdown norms in the municipal market. “The municipality has only four inspectors. One has retired, another has been transferred to the directorate of municipal administration and two others come from distant places, due to which they are unable to arrive early in the morning to keep a check on the market,” he said.
