GOA: Manipal Hospitals on Tuesday announced that it has commissioned a radioactive isolation facility in the state. They special facility has been set up with a biosafety laboratory made of lead.
The nuclear medicine team led by Dr Pankaj Mhatre treated the first two patients with radioiodine. “Both patients were operated on for thyroid cancer referred for this specialised treatment,” the hospital’s statement read.
“We were already performing various diagnostic studies. With the initiation of therapeutic services, we have opened a huge number of opportunities for various radionuclide therapies in the future,” he said .
