Mapusa police allegedly smuggling ganja into jail premises

GOA: Colvale central jail guard Rama Korgaonkar, who was arrested last week by Mapusa police for allegedly smuggling ganja into the jail premises, has been placed under suspension pending inquiry. A senior jail official said that this is the second time Korgaonkar has been caught attempting to smuggle contraband inside the jail. Two years ago, he was suspended for a similar offence. This time he was caught with ganja hidden in his footwear.

The officer said that they are trying to find out to which inmate or inmates he was supplying the contraband to. A thorough checking is carried out at all the gates of the jail. However, the officer said that they could not rule out smuggling of contraband items into the jail’s premises through other means. “We do not know. Some things may have been taken inside without our knowledge,” he said. More than a year ago, there was an attempt to smuggle some item through a milk delivery van. Nobody was held responsible then.
