Goa : A group of Mapusa residents, as well as people from various social and political organisations, have demanded that an underpass be constructed at the Pedem junction on the Pedem-Mapusa national highway. They have also submitted a letter in this regard to chief minister Pramod Sawant. In a memorandum signed by around 1,200 residents, they said the flyover or underpass at the spot will benefit those seeking emergency medical treatment at the district hospital in Mapusa and five major private hospitals in the city.
“Ambulances currently have to come to the hospital via the Peddem junction. However, this route may become permanently inaccessible in the future due to highway works. Without an underpass or flyover, people will have to use the underpass at Karaswada Char Rasta or the underpass at Tarikade-Bastora, causing them inconvenience. In cases of emergencies, they could get stuck in the increasing traffic in Mapusa city,” the memorandum stated.
