GOA: Agnelo Fernandes who took over as the chief officer (CO) of the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) earlier this week told reporters on Thursday that his priority would be efficient civic administration and services like issuing birth certificates and making corrections in certificates will be speeded up. “The procedure for persons with Goan origin will be further simplified,” he added.“The stock of fish will be confiscated and donated to orphanages and old age homes,” Fernandes said.
Similarly anti-plastic drives which are kept on hold will also be started soon.MMC is currently collecting data on street vendors whose trade suffered due to the pandemic and Fernandes said that the data would facilitate the civic body to help vendors avail of the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme that entitles vendors to a loan of Rs10,000.
He also said that the MMC has identified two places one near the power house, Aquem, and the other near the station road, Ravanfond to set up street vending zones. Over 200 vendors have already been identified by MMC as beneficiaries of the scheme under which the street vendor zones will be set up.
