PMC has not been fully functional

Goa: Though the incinerator installed by the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has not been fully functional, pressure is being mounted on the civic body to dispose bio-medical waste from other areas in the state as the similar facility at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, is out of order since the last few days.

The bio-medical waste that was being incinerated at the GMC facility is now forwarded to Ponda, but the PMC on Thursday returned a truck which was sent by Mapusa municipality. The PMC procured the incinerator through funds allocated to it under the state’s 14th finance scheme. The Rs 40 lakh machine has been supplied and was erected last week by a Hyderabad-based company at PMC’s landfill site at Curti, around two kilometres from Ponda town.
