GOA: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) to deposit Rs 25,000 per case for not having filed replies sought by it. The authority has been asked to deposit the sum in the account of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) within a week, and it will be used “for improvement of environment matters”.
The NGT has said that the GCZMA’s counsel has requested an opportunity to file a reply, but that the request will only be allowed after the Rs 25,000 per case is deposited by the authority. The NGT also transferred the case to the principal bench of the NGT in New Delhi. The NGT asked why proceedings against GCZMA should not be initiated.
“The notification issued in 1991 has not been complied with till date, and with the conspiracy aid and assistance of GCZMA, the polluters and violators of law are still continuing their activities,” the NGT said. “It is surprising that the notification of 1991 and several orders of the high court and Supreme Court had not been complied with, and the CRZ notification has not been acted upon till date due to various reasons,” said the NGT.
