There is finally an end in sight to misery of little-known Ghanaian footballers in India

GOA: Stranded here without food or money for almost five months, the Ghanaians had appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo, president of Ghana, to take them home. They dialled several other contacts too, but it’s a football-loving NRI from the US who has come to their rescue.

“I got to know of their plight after reading a report in The Times of India. Initially, I thought someone would help them, but when nothing happened, I decided to do something,” Anirudh K told. The ‘crazy Chelsea fan’ from Kannur, Kerala, raised $6,800 (approximately Rs 5.1 lakh), most of his own and the rest from friends and colleagues, to ensure that the footballers took the chartered evacuation flight from New Delhi to Accra.
