GOA: The water scarcity has hit New Vaddem, Vasco, like never before. For the past one and a half months, those residing in the area from Saibaba Temple to Santoshi Mata Temple in New Vaddem, told that they have been facing acute water shortage.
“I have to bring a water tanker from the PWD once in every three days to supply water in my ward, said Yatin
Kamurlekar, councillor of ward no. 20 of the Mormugao municipality. “The normal timing of tap water supplied at New Vaddem was from 1am to around 8am, however, since the past one and a half months, the residents have been getting water for only one hour – from 5am to 6am, at very low pressure,” Kamurlekar said, while adding that the New Vaddem hill “did not receive a drop of water for three continuous days, from last Friday to Sunday”. The councillors representing wards 22 and 23 also get water in tankers from the PWD and provide it to the residents.
The councillor of ward no. 23 Gourish Mardolkar told that the problem is compounded as some people have kept tenants. “These people take only one line connection againsts one house tax receipt and then build rooms which they rent out. With less water supply and low pressure, they are unable to fulfil the requirements of their tenants,” Mardolkar said. He said he hoped the problem would be sorted out once the Jica-funded pipeline from Chicalim to Sada is commissioned.
