1st 4 of the 50 electric vehicles to be operated under the KTC

Goa : First four of the 50 electric vehicles to be operated under the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) have arrived in Goa. They will be launched by mid-March.Sources from KTC said that the buses are yet to be officially handed over to the corporation. They are currently parked at the Porvorim bus depot. We are yet to take charge of the buses,” said KTC managing director, Derek Pereira Neto. For safety purpose, we have allowed the buses to be parked inside the depot instead of leaving them outside,” he said. The buses require to be recharged at electric charging stations, infrastructure for which is yet to be set up all over Goa. The construction of one charging station is currently underway at KTC, Margao. “We are trying to complete the charging station at Margao within 30 days, because we want to launch the electric vehicles by March 15,” Neto said.

There are a total of 50 buses to be delivered under the FAME India scheme. While a total of 30 buses are expected to be delivered by the launch date, the rest will be delivered after the launch. As a way forward, KTC is also hoping to harness the solar energy for its bus stands. “The cost of charging electric buses is very little compared. Once electric buses are rolled out, we can look at becoming solar powered.
