After four patients in the ICU expired over the past three days, the Covid hoapital’s six-bed ICU now has only two patients. One patient, who was shifted to the hospital with fever, cough and breathlessness a couple of days ago, developed respiratory distress. The patient was put on intubated ventilation on Tuesday. Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias continues to be in the ICU, too.
The occupancy in the 220-bed hospital is less than half with around 104 symptomatic patients admitted With the ICU filled to capacity last week, the hospital has now readied a 20-bed intensive treatment unit (ITU), which will help decongest the ICU. Patients who are serious, requiring specialised care as well as those who require non-invasive ventilation (NIV) will be admitted to the ITU. Those who require invasive ventilation and turn critical will be moved to the ICU.
